Africa-Press – Malawi. The 2025 Inkosi ya Makhosi M’mbelwa V golf tournament, held at Lilongwe Golf Club (LGC) on Saturday, raised K37.1 million through pledges and registration fees.

This year’s tournament was organised to raise funds for Umthetho Cultural Festival, scheduled for August 9 at Hora Mountain in Mzimba District.

The initial budget was K20 million.

This means the fundraising event has raised more than double of the projected budget.

One of the organising committee members, Misheck Chisi, said the golf tournament surpassed their expectations.

In his remarks, Inkosi M’mbelwa V applauded companies and golfers for participating in the fundraising event.

He also encouraged the corporate world and the golfers to support all cultural groups in the country.

“We received overwhelming response from the corporate world and golfers,” M’mbelwa V said.

On behalf of the organising committee, Vizenge Kumwenda described the event as a success.

“We are happy that the golf tournament was a success. We thank all the companies for contributing to the good cause,” Kumwenda said.

LGC captain Maziko Kumbani said the golf tournament received overwhelming response from companies and golfers.

“We thank the organisers for choosing us to host the event,” Kumbani said.

Meanwhile, seasoned golfers Kwanele Ngwenya and Duncan Chidzankufa showed class as they won the Inkosi ya Makhosi M’mbelwa Golf.

Ngwenya and Chidzankufa, playing under One Nico 6, outclassed a field of golfers after they got 49 points.

An NBS Bank-sponsored team, comprising Stella Gama and Jochebed Mpanga, finished second with 47 points.

The duo counted out Top MandalaTotalEnergies-sponsored team comprising Christine Masaiti and Stella Ng’oma.

In individual accolades, Kumbani won the longest drive on hole number nine whereas Arthur Kawelama won the nearest pin on hole number 13 in the men’s category.

Jean Kasenda won the longest drive on hole number five whereas Mirriam Nankhuni won the nearest to pin in the ladies’ category.
