Africa-Press – Malawi. TNM Super League leaders Mighty Wanderers have a chance to open a five-point gap at the summit of the log table if they win against struggling Mzuzu City Hammers at Kamuzu Stadium this afternoon.

The Nomads go into the match against Hammers two points above second-placed FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, who have been exempted from TNM Super League action this weekend as they will face Silver Strikers in the Airtel Top 8 final at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe Sunday.

Currently, Wanderers have 29 points from 11 matches.

So far, the Nomads are unbeaten in the league this season in 11 matches.

They only dropped points against TNM Super League defending champions Silver Strikers and Karonga United following 1-1 stalemates.

On the other hand, Hammers will be looking to move out of the relegation zone with a victory over Wanderers.

Hammers have been a pale shadow of themselves this season having won two matches, drawn two and registered seven losses in 11 matches.

They are second from bottom with eight points. Despite their struggles this season, Hammers cannot be underrated at any stage.

Last season, the two teams shared fortunes in the league.

Hammers defeated Wanderers 2-0 at Mzuzu Stadium but the Nomads hammered Hammers 8-0 in the second-round match at Kamuzu Stadium.

But the two teams go into the battle having contrasting fortunes in their respective matches last week.

Bob MpinganjiraWanderers earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ekhaya at the same venue whereas Hammers lost by a similar margin to Creck Sporting Club at Aubrey Dimba Stadium in Mchinji.

But Wanderers Coach Bob Mpinganjira urged his charges to guard against complacency.

“We are taking the game seriously because we know they also want to win. We need to double our efforts to get maximum points,” Mpinganjira said.

Wanderers will be without Sama Tanjong, Clement Nyondo and Richard Chipuwa.

On his part, Hammers Coach Elias Chirambo said he believes his troops can stop Wanderers at their own backyard.

“The players know the importance of the match. We know what we want. We respect them[Wanderers] but we can beat them,” he said.

The two teams last met in the Castel Challenge Cup final in which Wanderers won 1-0 at BNS.

In other matches today, Karonga will face Blue Eagles at Karonga Stadium whereas Civil Service United will host Songwe Border United at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
