Africa-Press – Malawi. The Patriots, a non-profit volunteer group, Tuesday donated medical equipment worth K2.16 billion to Mangochi District Hospital.

The donation, which includes intensive care unit beds, X-ray and ultrasound machines, surgical kits, maternity and emergency care tools, personal protective equipment and lab supplies, is part of a plan by the Patriots to improve healthcare access in both rural and urban Malawi.

National Coordinator for the Patriots, Lenia Bonongwe, said that as a group, they aim to bring sustainable healthcare services to citizens and have a target of delivering 100 containers of assorted medical items nationwide, with nine already secured.

“We remain committed to reaching out to as many health facilities in the country as possible with the medical equipment to ensure everyone has access to quality health services,” Bonongwe said.

CHIBOWA—It will assist in achieving our health goalsDirector of Health and Social Services for Mangochi, Henry Chibowa, thanked the Patriots, saying the equipment comes at the perfect time when the district is in dire need of medical resources to cater for the challenges faced by people who depend on public health facilities.

“The donation from the Patriots group will assist in achieving the country’s health goals of reducing the maternal mortality rate by 2030,” Chibowa said.

He added that quality healthcare delivery requires both human resources and equipment, hence the donation will assist medical personnel in having the right equipment to help patients.

Other hospitals that have benefited from the same initiative include the country’s central hospitals and district hospitals such as Nsanje, Chitipa, Mchinji, Bwaila and Likuni Mission.

The donation was made possible through Project Cure USA and Islamic Relief USA, who assisted with shipping.

The Patriots is a strategic platform that engages diaspora friends, local institutions and development partners in rebuilding the country’s health infrastructure.
