Africa-Press – Malawi. The NICO General team has become the first team to book their 2026 fully paid for trip to Sun City in South Africa after emerging winners of the 2025 One NICO Executive Golf Challenge Tournament which was hosted at Limbe Golf Club under the theme, Every Swing Counts.
The competition which also marked as the fourth edition having being introduced in 2022 saw the NICO General side becoming champions after outclassing fellow teams with an impressive 89 points just like NICO Life but they managed to win the trophy after counting out NICO Life team which finished second and featured Chimwemwe Kanyenda, Madalo Matabwa, Chimwemwe Chimwaza, and Mercy Kamanaga.
In his remarks, Captain for NICO General, Donbell Mandala described the win as a great achievement and attributed the secret behind the success as a result of team work, patience, and proper preparations.
“It has been a tough competition and to become winners it was not an easy thing because we were facing experienced golfers.We encouraged each other to deliver our best performance and put up our energy which we managed,” said Mandala.
He further disclosed that before the tournament he asked fellow team members to work hard and ensure they win the trophy in order to dedicate it to his late mother who died last year on the same date (25 October) the competition was played in order to make it memorable.
NICO Group Head of Marketing and Customer Experience, Taweni Gondwe Xaba expressed delighted with the tournament’s outcome which she said it has managed to meet its main objective of creating a platform where they bring together valued customers, spend time with them outside of the boardroom in order to show them some appreciation to the business they do with the company.
“Honestly, the tournament has been very impressive as all the participating teams worked very hard and showcased their skills which we really enjoyed seeing golfers playing and also networking in as far as business is concerned,” said Xaba.
During the competition, NICO Asset Managers finished on third place after scoring 88 points while Thoko Gaffar won the Nearest to the Ladies category whereas Ismail Aniz scooped the Longest Drive Men category respectively.
The One NICO Executive Golf Tournament is an annual competition which brought together a total of ten teams comprised of four players each formed by Chief Executive Officers from the ten companies which are under NICO Holdings.
Similar tournament will be played on November 22 2025 in Lilongwe where the winning team will join the Blantyre based NICO General team on the trip to South Africa in May next year.
To ensure the greens remains in good condition, NICO Holdings made a contribution of K1.5 million which was meant to help in improving the golf course.
