Africa-Press – Malawi. Malawian women’s football star Temwa Chawinga retained Most Valuable Player Award in the US’s National Women’s Soccer League.

She put the icing on the cake when she also won the Golden Boot after scoring 15 goals in 23 games.

The Malawian footballer also won the Golden Boot last season with a record 20 goals in 25 games.

Temwa beat her teammate Kansas City forward Bia Zaneratto, North Carolina Courage midfielder Nanaka Matsukubu, Gothan City forward Esther Gonzalez and San Diego Wave forward Delphine Cascarino.

In her speech Temwa, who is also sister to another football star, Tabitha based in France applauded those who voted for her.

She said: “Thank you to the players and coaches who voted for me. It’s a big dream for me to be here to win this twice. I really appreciate. Thank you the fans who voted for me. The finalists who are in this category all the best. Next season is also another chapter.”

Her feat was covered by renowned news publications such as ESPN, Reuters and New York Times.

Temwa was aldo nominated for the CAF Best Women’s Player of the year, but missed on the final three shortlist.

Meanwhile, Football Association of Malawi President Fleetwood Haiya, who is in Cairo, Egypt for the CAF applauded Temwa for being nominated despite that she did not win.
