Africa-Press – Malawi. Spouses and family members are being encouraged to continue providing strong support to employees, as happy families remain the backbone of a stable, motivated and high-performing workforce.

This message took centre stage on Saturday as Old Mutual Malawi staff and their loved ones gathered for Family Day, held at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) sports grounds in Blantyre.

Speaking at the event, Benard Chiluzi, Financial Education Manager at Old Mutual Malawi and the company’s Welfare Chairperson, said the stability and happiness of families directly influence how employees perform at work.

He noted that workers spend most of their day either at the office or asleep, leaving very limited time for family interaction.

Because of this, Chiluzi said bringing spouses and children together through such events helps strengthen the support system behind every employee. “Happy families are key to a successful organisation,” he said.

“Sometimes the way an employee behaves at work depends on their mood or emotions, and often the things happening at home contribute to that. If indeed we are going to have a successful organisation, we need success in our families.” Chiluzi added that the company has grown from about 300 employees to over 730 nationwide, making it important for families to understand and feel connected to the culture their loved ones serve in.

The day was full of activities, including children’s and adult games, relaxation opportunities and vibrant live entertainment.

Amapiano star, Zeze Kingston headlined the performances, adding excitement and energy to the celebration.

“This day is simply about giving our people and their families time to relax, enjoy and feel appreciated,” Chiluzi said, emphasising that strong families help build a stronger Old Mutual and a more productive workforce for Malawi.

One participant Sylvia Kamanga praised the initiative, saying it creates rare yet meaningful moments for families to bond, understand each other better and feel valued by the company.
