Africa-Press – Malawi. Old Mutual Investment has donated K45 million to Mzuzu University (Mzuni) to support the 2025 Mathematics Olympiad, marking a decade-long partnership between the two institutions.
The contribution celebrates 10 years of continuous collaboration, with Old Mutual’s support for the Olympiad dating back to 2015.
During the handover ceremony held at Mzuni, Old Mutual Managing Director Mark Mikwamba highlighted the central role of mathematics in national development.
He emphasized that innovation and economic progress are rooted in strong analytical skills.
“For the country to be innovative, we need people to understand the systems that create innovation, and that is really underpinned by mathematics.
”Mzuni Vice Chancellor Professor Wales Singini praised the enduring partnership, noting Old Mutual’s unwavering commitment over the years.
He remarked that the relationship between the two institutions has grown stronger since its inception, stating that the company has “consistently sustained its support” for the Mathematics Olympiad.
The renewed sponsorship is expected to strengthen the Olympiad’s reach, encourage mathematical excellence, and inspire young learners across Malawi.
