Swam invites entries for TNM Super League media awards

Sports Writers Association of Malawi (Swam) has, on behalf of TNM plc, invited eligible media practitioners to submit entries for the 2025 TNM Super League Media Awards.

Swam General Secretary Wesysylas Chirwa said initiative was aimed at recognizing excellence and professionalism in the coverage of Malawi’s top-flight football league.

“The awards motivate journalists to go beyond basic reporting and embrace analysis, creativity and professionalism, which ultimately benefits the sport and the public,” Chirwa said.

He said the awards have over the years played a critical role in raising standards of sports journalism in the country by encouraging accuracy, depth, creativity and ethical reporting.

The awards will be presented in seven categories, namely Best Journalist–Print, Best Journalist–Radio, Best Journalist–Television, Best Journalist–Online, Best Photography–Still, Best Commentary–Radio, and Best Analyst covering newspaper columns, online blogs and pages.

Each category carries a cash prize of K500,000.

Chirwa said participation in the awards provides media practitioners with an opportunity for professional growth, national recognition and a chance to contribute meaningfully to the continued development of sports journalism in Malawi.

He urged all eligible journalists to take advantage of the opportunity by submitting their best TNM Super League-related work for consideration.

“Entries will be judged by independent media trainers and journalists from the Department of Media Studies at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (Mubas). The judging will focus on creativity, accuracy, impact, analysis and ethical integrity, with entries assessed in their original language,” he said.

Submission requirements vary by category, with journalists allowed to submit up to three pieces of work per category, depending on the medium.

Only TNM Super League-related content produced by recognized media practitioners will be considered.

The deadline for submission is Saturday, January 31, at 12:00 noon. Entries should be sent via email to [email protected] or physically delivered to the Department of Media Studies at Mubas Chichiri Campus, addressed to Dr Jolly Ntaba.
