Africa-Press – Malawi. Deputy Leader of the House Shadric Namalomba on Monday dismissed accusations from opposition leader Simplex Chithyola Banda regarding the controversial purchase of Amaryllis Hotel, stating in Parliament that those seeking answers should direct their questions to former Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Colleen Zamba.
The clash erupted as Parliament resumed sitting after two weeks of cluster committee meetings reviewing the national budget.
Chithyola Banda had earlier called on President Arthur Peter Mutharika to fire several top officials, including the Minister of Finance, Attorney General and Reserve Bank Governor over the scandal.
He argued that the alleged irregular purchase of Amaryllis Hotel had eroded public trust and demanded immediate action from the President.
But Namalomba dismissed the accusations as selective and misleading.
He told the House that the deal did not originate in the current administration but began under the previous government through the Office of the Secretary to the President and Cabinet led by Zamba.

According to Namalomba, trustees of the Public Service Pension Fund had initially discontinued the purchase before the office allegedly directed them to proceed.
He also rejected claims that the Ministry of Finance authorised the transaction, saying the pension fund operates independently and that investigations by the Public Accounts Committee are still ongoing.
