FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have announced coach Gilbert Chirwa’s departure from the club on mutual agreement.

This brings to an end his brief spell in charge having taken over the mantle from Peter Mponda n December on an interim basis.

Chirwa earned Bullets’ trust to stay on after lifting the Castel Challenge Cup and securing a second place finish in last season’s top flight. In a statement released Friday, the club thanked Chirwa for his contribution during his tenure.

“Bullets and Gilbert Chirwa have agreed to part ways regarding his position as head coach.

The club sincerely thanks Chirwa for his contribution and wishes him every success in his future endeavours,” reads part of the statement.

The statement further indicated that communication regarding the vacant head coach position would be issued in due course.

The development comes at a time when Bullets endured a mixed start to the 2026 FDH Bank Premiership campaign.

Despite remaining unbeaten in five matches, Bullets have struggled to keep pace with other contenders due to a series of draws.

The team lies sixth on the table with nine points from two wins and three draws.

Bullets were among the unbeaten title contenders but dropped points against Red Lions and Blue Eagles.

Chirwa’s departure signals yet another transition period for the Blantyre giants as they seek stability and consistency in their pursuit of domestic success.

Football analyst Parry Chinyama said Chirwa’s performance was not entirely disappointing considering the circumstances under which he took over the team.

“He finished the 2025 season strongly by winning four straight Super League games and even this season the results have not been very bad because the team is still unbeaten,” he said, suggesting that Bullets could already be planning to bring in a foreign coach.

On 27 January this year, Bullets officially advertised the position of coach through the club’s website and social media platforms.

According to the advert, the successful candidate would lead the first team in domestic and continental competitions while overseeing player development and the club’s football philosophy.

Applicants were required to possess at least a Caf A Licence together with proven coaching experience.
