Pressure mounts on MCP to rescind its resolution of barring certain members from contesting at the convention

Africa-Press – Malawi. The Young Politicians Union- YPU and a Political Expert have faulted the decision by Malawi Congress Party to bar individuals who have not served at any position in MCP for at least two years to serve in the party’s National Executive Committee.

YPU National Director Clement Makuwa says although this will serve as a wakeup call to youths to have interest to serve in leadership positions at ward and constituency level, the move will disadvantage youths vying for political leadership positions.

On the other hand, Wonderful Mkhutche says the decision by the party is bad saying it will deny the youth to have their voices heard since they will not have representatives in the executive committee.

He also said the move could be targeting some individuals deemed to be threats to incumbents in the NEC.

Speaking to the media earlier, MCP spokesperson Ezekiel Ching’oma said the party will respond to the concerns being raised through a press statement.
