Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Members of Parliament (MPs) continue querying the Ministry of Energy over delays to connect people to the national electricity grid and failure to replace damaged transformers.<\/p>\n

The latest lawmakers to add their voice of concern to the issue are Nsanje Lalanje\u2019s Gladys Ganda and Lilian Patel of Mangochi South. Ganda said, four years after people from Mwachedwa and Lalanje applied for electricity connection, no progress had been made on the issue.<\/p>\n

She added that electricity poles that were meant for her area were sent to another area in another district. \u201cThis is very unfair,\u201d she said. On her part, Patel recently told Parliament that three transformers that got damaged in January this year were yet to be replaced.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is despite that the Ministry of Energy promised that it would do everything in its power to replace the transformers,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Responding on behalf of the Ministry of Energy, Leader of the House Richard Chimwendo Banda said the ministry responsible would address the matter. He also assured Ganda that the problems would be addressed.<\/p>\n

Chimwendo Banda added that the government was looking at ways of addressing electricity-supply related problems. Mathews Kasanda is a journalist who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from University of Malawi (The Polytechnic).<\/p>\n
