Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera is expected to virtually launch the second National Export Strategy (NES II) on Thursday, December 16, 2021. The official launch of the document will take place at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n

NES II is a product of the Ministry of Trade in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and in partnership with the Commonwealth and EIF Project. The purpose of the launch is to disseminate the Strategy and its actions to all the sectors and actors in the economy so as to kick-start its implementation inclusively, according to a joint statement from the two ministries and its partners.<\/p>\n

President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera is expected to virtually preside over the launch under a Theme: \u201cUnlocking Malawi\u2019s Full Export Potential\u201d The launch will also feature other High Level Key Note Speakers including ministers, development partners and beneficiary representatives.<\/p>\n

Speaking ahead of the launch, Chakwera said, \u201cThe National Export Strategy II outlines strategies and programmes that Government needs to put in place to enhance Malawi\u2019s export competitiveness at the global arena.\u201d<\/p>\n

The press statement says the vision of the NES II is to \u201cMake Malawi a Competitive, Compliant, Diversified and Sustainable Sourcing Destination for goods and services for the Regional and Global marketplace, and to increase exports as a percentage of GDP from 14.6 percent to 20 percent.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Strategy also aims to \u201cunlock Malawi\u2019s full export potential\u201d and to contribute towards achieving Malawi\u2019s Malawi 2063 vision by strengthening existing industries and accelerate the emergence of new export-oriented manufacturing and value-added services, ensuring that Malawian firms and Made in Malawi products are competitive and compliant to regional and international standard exigencies.<\/p>\n

\u201cNES II target is to increase exports of \u201cMade in Malawi\u201d products and services by 22 % in the next five years through export promotion, export development, export facilitation and organization efficiency and effectiveness.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe focus is on high value strategic products in the four export sectors, namely agriculture, manufacturing, services, and mining. In addition, the new Strategy has prioritized specific markets for the region and international with a focus on capitalising the African Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA) and emerging markets in which Malawi has potential to export competitively.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Strategy will be implemented in the period from 2021 to 2026, building on key lessons learned from the National Export Strategy of 2013-2018,\u201d concludes the statement.<\/p>\n
