Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>People\u2019s Party (PP) director of youth Ipyana Nthakomwa has accused Malawi Congress Party (MCP) of failing to unite youths in the Tonse Alliance-led administration.<\/p>\n

Nthakomwa told The Daily Times that, since the Tonse Alliance was voted into power on June 23 2020, the MCP has never invited youth directors from nine political parties that are part of the coalition to discuss issues such as how best President Lazarus Chakwera and his vice Saulos Chilima can fulfil pro-youths promises they made on the campaign trail.<\/p>\n

Nthakomwa further accused the MCP youth directorate of ignoring PP initiatives. He said there was a need for political party leaders to be meeting and sharing notes on development initiatives targeting the youth.<\/p>\n

The youth director said this had a negative impact on the alliance as some youths were of the view that MCP was monopolising Tonse Alliance administration affairs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have many letters from youths who want to understand how government affairs are being handled as far as empowering the youth is concerned but I do not know where to go with them [the letters].<\/p>\n

\u201cMCP youth leaders do not even answer my calls. This is not the alliance we were looking for. We only have three years to fulfil the promises we made. Where are we? What should I tell the youth I lead?\u201d Nthakomwa queried.<\/p>\n

Nthakomwa, who is also Small and Medium Enterprises Institute Board Member, said he could not keep quiet when things were going wrong. He said unity, which was prevalent on the campaign trail, had disappeared, a development that had disappointed PP youths.<\/p>\n

MCP director of youth Richard Chimwendo Banda did not pick his mobile phones when we tried to contact him but MCP publicity secretary Reverend Maurice Munthali said Nthakomwa could have used other channels to register his concerns instead of going to news media.<\/p>\n

Munthali said the other option would be for him to use his party\u2019s structures, saying leaders in the Tonse Alliance-led administration discuss government affairs when they meet.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think he has used the right channel to register his complaint. All complaints are discussed at party level before [we] meet our leaders,\u201d Munthali said.<\/p>\n

PP spokesperson Ackson Kalaile Banda said Nthakomwa\u2019s sentiments did not reflect the position of the party. Banda said PP had proper channels for addressing problems.<\/p>\n

Nthakomwa is the second director of youth in the Tonse Alliance-led administration to question management of alliance affairs, the first one being UTM former director of youth Bon Kalindo. He later resigned and now organises anti-government demonstrations.<\/p>\n
