Africa-Press<\/a> – Malawi<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Malawi\u2019s top female judo athlete Harriet Boniface has breathed a sigh of relief after being picked to represent Malawi at next month\u2019s Tokyo Olympics. Boniface, who is also a commissioner for athletes in the International Judo Federation, has been picked using tripartite allocation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are three methods of qualifications; to the Olympic games. Firstly, direct qualification thus those that are ranked between 1 and 16 in the world. Then there is continental quota and finally tripartite Advertisement<\/p>\n

\u201cIf Olympic Games were to be held last year, according to IJF website at that time Harriet would have qualified by continental quota but things changed because of the effects of Covid-19,\u201d said Judo Association of Malawi (Judo) General Secretary Osbourne Banda. Banda added that Boniface reached a pinnacle of her Judo career when she became 90th on the World ranking and fifth in Africa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
