Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Two medical experts on Friday produced in court different postmortem results on the death of Buleya Lule who died in police custody at Area 3 in February 2019.<\/p>\n

Lule was arrested in relation to the murder of a person with albinism Goodson Fanizo, but an enquiry by the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) exonerated him, concluding his case might have been that of mistaken identity. Twelve police officers are answering charges in relation to Lule\u2019s death which was concluded to be a murder.<\/p>\n

When tendering their evidence on Friday, Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) anatomical pathologist Dr Morris Mulenga said his findings showed Lule\u2019s death was caused by traumatic intracranial hemorrhage associated with surface injuries contrary to pathologist Charles Dzamalala\u2019s results that showed death was caused by electrocution.<\/p>\n

The State paraded three witnesses namely, Charles Munthali and Mulenga, both from KCH and Dzamalala, a lecturer at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences. Mulenga said he conducted the postmortem together with clinical officer Lewis Manyuka on February 21, 2019.<\/p>\n

He told the court that on February 20, 2019, Lule together with his accomplices was taken to court and that while in the courtroom, he complained of dizziness and was referred to KCH for treatment.<\/p>\n

On his part, Dzamalala said his conclusion on the forensic postmortem showed that Lule died because of an electric current into his body and bleeding in the brain. Defence lawyer Lugano Mwabutwa said his side was still waiting for the State to finish parading its witnesses.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe State is still doing the prosecution of the case. They have not closed it. We expect they will close their case next week. We have heard their expert evidence,\u201d Mwabutwa said.<\/p>\n
