Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Malawi National Football Team are leaving no stone unturned preparing for Round of 16 tie against Morocco in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon.<\/p>\n

The Flames, having relocated from Bana to Yaound\u00e9 Friday, are hoping to continue with their fairytale run to reach the quarterfinals where they will be entitled to $1.175 million (about K969 million).<\/p>\n

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) president Walter Nyamilandu said the team was in high spirits despite changing base. \u201cWe are happy and the team has settled very well here in Yaound\u00e9. We are all focused to the game on Tuesday,\u201d Nyamilandu said.<\/p>\n

Malawi, who were in Group B and played all their matches in Bafoussam, are staying at Djeuga Palace. The team had its first training session in Yaound\u00e9 Friday evening at Military Stadium before having two sessions at the same venue yesterday.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Fam General Secretary Alfred Gunda said apart from the big money at stake, the players were also aiming at building their profiles at this Africa\u2019s biggest football stage.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is all about character and the will to win. There are some scouts from European clubs here [Cameroon].<\/p>\n

\u201cAs for the monetary incentive, we made it clear that we will share 50-50 percent with the players if the team gets to the paid-up ranks. In this case, if we reach the quarterfinals we are talking about $1 million which is close to K1 billion. It means the players will share K500 million if we get to the quarterfinals,\u201d Gunda said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Ernest Kakhobwe has started light training and took part in the Friday\u2019s session. Kakhobwe missed Senegal\u2019s game due to illness but debutant Charles Thom impressed with a string of fine saves to earn man-of-the-match award.<\/p>\n

Flames Interim Coach Marian Mario Marinica said they were monitoring the squad. \u201cIt is good to have the full squad available. This is what every coach wants. Kakhobwe did some light training not with the rest of the squad,\u201d Marinica.<\/p>\n

Flames reached the last 16 after qualifying as one of the four best third-placed sides. Senegal topped Group B with five points but Guinea finished second with four points despite tying on points with the Flames.<\/p>\n
