Africa-Press<\/a> – Malawi<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>President Lazarus Chakwera Friday implored fellow African leaders to promote unity and uphold Kenneth Kaunda\u2019s legacy. He was speaking in Lusaka, Zambia during the State funeral of the former Zambia president, who died on June 17.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet us harvest a new Pan-African generation with the passion for the ideals Dr. Kaunda embodied. From our planting of this seed, let us harvest a new Pan-African generation with the vision for African governments free of corruption and oppression.<\/p>\n

He added that African countries should continue planting seed in order to harvest a new Pan- African generation with the resolve to build roads and rail connecting Cairo to CapeTown and Dakar to Djibouti.<\/p>\n

Chakwera said Kaunda fought hard for Malawi to be included in the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) bloc in the face of much opposition. He said through ideals of Kaunda, African leaders must become a fortress that protects Africa from those who seek to exploit and divide her.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Dr. Kaunda called me on the phone last July in the days following my election as President of Malawi to encourage me, calling me \u201cyoung man\u201d, he was building that generation. Now that he has left us, we must embody the ideals of this giant,\u201d he said.
