Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Mapeto David White Head and Sons (MDWS) Directors Tax Invasion case will delay further as documents relating to the case are reportedly missing, officials from Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) have confirmed.<\/p>\n

According to the officials, the documents which contain strong evidences for the said crime went missing on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. \u201cYes, the documents are nowhere to be seen,\u201d said the source who opted for anonymity.<\/p>\n

The source further said; \u201cThe management has since launched a manhunt as it is suspected that the documents has been stolen by Mapeto agent to delay the administration of justice.<\/p>\n

Fizal Latif Gaffar, who is Managing Director at MDWS, a Director Gaffar Latif Zarina Mohammed as well as Gaffar and Muhammed Yaseen, who are proprietors of Star Style Investments, were arrested in September last year by MRA for invading MK16 billion Tax.<\/p>\n

Since their arrest in September, the case has been moving at a snail\u2019s pace a development with defence and state lawyers playing delaying tactics, a development which recently angered civil rights activist in the country.<\/p>\n

According to some CSOs who spoke on conditional anonymity, delaying the case is denying millions of Malawians, who are tax payers, the right to know what happened to their tax money amounting to over MK16 billion.<\/p>\n

Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Steven Kayuni was not committal on why the case is being delayed as we went to press. The development comes after Mapeto\u2019s lawyers applied for the shirting case from high profile criminal case to the constitution court.<\/p>\n

However, Chief resident magistrate (South) Jean Kayira on Friday, February 11, 2022 disclosed that the full trial will start on March 28 and is expected to end on April 1 2022 where the State is expected to continue parading its witnesses.<\/p>\n

Kayira\u2019s directions follow the High Court of Malawi Judge Vikochi Chima\u2019s decision on January 18, 2022 to lift an injunction which Mapeto DWS executives obtained in September last year. The accused persons through their lawyers stopped Kayira from continuing hearing the case pending a review.<\/p>\n
