Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>The ministry of water and sanitation says it will soon initiate several projects that will see a number of citizens with access to clean and portable water increasing.<\/p>\n

Minister responsible Abida Mia, made the remarks following a well-documented number of the country\u2019s citizens that have little even others without access to clean water.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy ministry is aware of challenges the country\u2019s citizens are going through to access clean and safe water, let me assure Malawians that my ministry will facilitate the drilling of boreholes and initiate special projects that will enable citizens access to clean water from the country\u2019s boards\u201d she said<\/p>\n

She also said the Chakwera led government is committed to make sure there is countrywide coverage of water to all places across the country. \u201cWe promise to bring more industrial pumps for gravity process projection that will ease the perennial water problem that the country faces, as you are aware without clean and easily accessible water families and communities are locked in poverty for generations.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd unfortunately, children drop out of schools and parents struggle to make a living hence Chakwera\u2019s led administration through my ministry is aiming at proving clean water for all,\u201d she added<\/p>\n

The Executive director for rain water harvest association of Malawi, Harvey McPherson Nthala, applauded the initiative because it has been long overdue, since there have been a cause for long time that the country needed a standalone ministry responsible for water and sanitation.<\/p>\n

\u201cyou know water is life, if we look at all sectors of our country\u2019s economy you cannot talk about moving forward without considering water, so I think this is a very important initiative and we welcome the new ministry.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs Rain Water Harvest Association of Malawi, we believe this is s very big opportunity to move forward with the sustainable goal number 6 which is looking at increasing access to water for all by the year 2030,\u201d he said<\/p>\n

The Director however urged the new ministry to embrace all means of supplying water to come up with a basket of solutions for all these water challenges, to make sure no Malawian in this era should be suffering from lack of safe and clean water when the country has abundant different sources of water.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you look Malawi as a country, there are some areas which are supplied by boreholes, rivers, and wells but also there some areas where either none of these are not accessible.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn some areas you may find out that boreholes have salty water as a result people are accessing water from unsafe sources, therefore this new ministry has to come up with various solutions to overturn such problems,\u201d he said<\/p>\n
