Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Traditional leaders in Mangochi have told three civil society organizations which obtained a court injunction against a water project in the district to vacate the injunction within seven days and allow the project to move on.<\/p>\n

The CSOs obtained the injunction stopping the implementation of the Nkhudzi Bay-Mangochi Water Supply Project, fearing the project would harm the environment in the national park.<\/p>\n

But the chiefs said the project is for the benefit of the people of the district. Led by Senior Chief Nankumba, the traditional leaders held a press briefing together with a Mangochi based organisation, Forum for Social Economic Development (FOSEMA).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are giving those who took the injunction seven days to vacate it. They are not aware of the water woes we face. We are also aware that some of them are not residents here so they do not know the importance of this project to the people of Mangochi,\u201d said one of the chiefs.<\/p>\n

Ali Mwachande, Publicity Secretary for FOSEMA, confirmed the chiefs\u2019 stand. National Youth Climate Change Network, Center for Environmental Policy and Advocacy and Movement for Environment Action are the organisations that obtained the injunction.<\/p>\n
