Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>The Gods have smiled at one of Malawi\u2019s oldest top-flight league clubs Mighty Tigers after landing a one-year K30 million sponsorship, years after in the doldrums.<\/p>\n

The Kau Kau Boys will now be called Waka Waka Tigers after Mothers Food Limited offered them the deal on Tuesday complete with the unveiling of their kit.<\/p>\n

The company\u2019s director Riaz Sattar said they have taken Tigers on board to contribute to football development in the country. \u201cWe will continue sponsoring and reviewing the package based on the team\u2019s performance this season,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The sponsorship will be promoted under the banner of their Waka Waka carbonated drinks; hence, Waka Waka Tigers. Tigers technical director Robin Alufandika said they would do their best to safeguard the sponsorship.<\/p>\n

Tigers Technical Director Robin Alufandika, who has been supporting the team alongside chairperson Sydney Chikoti described the sponsorship as a good deal.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am at loss for words because this sponsorship has come at the right time as the season has just started. This will help us to compete at the same level footing with rest of the teams in the TNM Super League,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The sponsorship is also a morale booster as face Mighty Wanderers in another explosive Blantyre derby as Tigers have in the past produced players who have went on to become stars at Tigers.<\/p>\n

Some of the players are Gift Zakazaka, goalkeeper Phillip Nyasulu, Sherry Msuku and most recently Yamikani Chester and Stanley Sanudi.Tigers, who fought relegation battle last season, have started on a positive note following their a 1-1 away draw against the 2016 TNM Super League champions Kamuzu Barracks and beat another Malawi Defence Force-sponsored team Moyale Barracks 1-0 at home.<\/p>\n

The clubs has also produced legendary footballers such as midfielder Jonathan Billie, goalkeeper Clement Mkwalula, Popote Chang\u00f3no, McDonald Singo, Felix Nyirongo, Ibra Mwase and Charles Phiri.<\/p>\n
