Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has appealed to players to invest in to fall back on after retiring from the football. The association\u2019s executive committee member Chimango advised players, when he represented FAM president Walter Nyamilandu during the launch of Kinnah Phiri\u2019s book Four-Lgged Wizard at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe on Friday,<\/p>\n

\u201cFootball is a serious business. Players need special attention from youth football to elite leagues to make sure that we develop and nurture them. And this includes, combining football with education, to investing while playing in preparation for life after playing football. That should be extended to all athletes,\u201d he was quoted as saying by FAM website.<\/p>\n

Munthali said the government, FAM and players themselves should to the leading role to change situation, which has seen most football legends destitute.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel sorry when I see legends who wrote history for our country suffering. Without pointing fingers at anyone all I can say is that the status quo needs to be changed,\u201d he said<\/p>\n

Munthali said the pathetic situation prompted FAM executive to make resolution to be honouring Malawi\u2019s football legends as a way of showing respect to the legends. He also commended Kinnah, alongside Leslie Ndovie Jr for authoring a book The Four- Legged Wizard, which fetched about K7 million.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of us were lucky to have witnessed Kinnah during his playing days. Some of us might have heard the beautiful stories about Kinnah. But this book is a timely low hanging fruit for all those who are interested in knowing more about this special son of the Warm Heart of Africa,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Minister of Youth and Sports Richard Chimwendo Banda, who bought his copy at K500,000, applauded Kinnah for authoring the book, saying legends such as him must be supported.<\/p>\n

After his successful playing career for Bata Bullets now Nyasa Big Bullets, he went on become a successful coach in Swaziland as well as at his former club and the national team.<\/p>\n

He took Bullets to the group stages of the CAF Champions League in 2004 when the club was sponsored by former Malawi President Bakili Muluzi and six years later took the national team to their second Africa Cup of Nations finals in Angola in 2010 since the debut in 1984.<\/p>\n
