Africa-Press<\/a> – Malawi<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Football Association of Malawi (Fam) says it will start the process of recruiting coach for the Malawi Women\u2019s National Football Team next week. The position fell vacant after coach Mcnerbert Kazuwa was released at the end of his one-year contract in May this year.<\/p>\n

Fam General Secretary Alfred Gunda said the association is expected to advertise the post in the media next week. \u201cWe are set to start the process. We know that there are some competitions coming up for the team,\u201d Gunda said.<\/p>\n

Kazuwa replaced Abel Mkandawire in 2019. Fam indicated that they will recruit a full-time coach for women\u2019s football team, just like the men\u2019s team. Previous women\u2019s football coaches were employed on temporary basis.<\/p>\n

According to Fam, the position is open to local or expatriate coach. National Women\u2019s Football Association (NWFA) chairperson Suzgo Ngwira was reluctant to comment on the matter. Scorchers are expected to take part in this year\u2019s Cosafa Women\u2019s Championship in September this year.<\/p>\n

While in-charge of the Scorchers, Kazuwa guided the team to the Cosafa Women\u2019s Cup semifinal after registering wins over Lesotho (9-0) and Zambia (1-0) in Nelson Mandela Bay last year. However, the team exited the competition in the semifinals after a 6-2 loss to South Africa.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Fam is also expected to finalise short-listing of candidates for the post of technical director, which fell vacant after the expiry of John Kaputa\u2019s contract on June 30, 2021.<\/p>\n

Kaputa retired from his post after serving in that capacity for eight years. Former Flames mentor Kinnah Phiri and 10 others from Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa applied for the TD post.<\/p>\n

Fam disclosed in May that it was looking for a Pro-Football Licence holder with a degree in sports management. But none of the local coaches has such qualifications.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
