Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Walter Nyamilandu says the newly launched CAF African Schools Championship will help revive structured schools football in the country. Nyamilandu said this after attending the launch of the programme in Mozambique on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cSchools football is back. The CAF African Schools Championship heralds a new dawn for African Football as it will bridge the gap of Schools Football. We are delighted to go back to our roots where there is hidden talent<\/p>\n

\u201cThe end of Coca-Cola Schools tournaments that exposed our players to international schools\u2019 tournament in the past few years affected our player career development pathways. We believe this project will help us get back to the basics in terms of our youth development agenda.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis project, which is based on the organization of football tournaments in schools, will accelerate growth and put in place structures at the youth level, with a particular focus on schools.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Project is funded by the Motsepe Foundation to the tune of $10 million. The Championship will commence at National championship and the winning boys\u2019 team and girls\u2019 team will represent their country in the Zonal Phase of the Competition. The Zonal Qualifying Tournament of the 2022\/23 season will be held in the period between September and December 2022.<\/p>\n

The winning boys\u2019 team and girls\u2019 team will represent their zone in the final continental phase which will be held in March 2023 and will showcase the best of football participation and management across the qualified African schools form each of the CAF Zones.<\/p>\n
