Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Malawian fashion brand, Doll by Mabel has showcased new designs for 2022 at one of the largest events in the Middle East, Dubai Expo 2020. The event was supposed to be held in 2020, but was postponed by a year because of the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

In an interview, Doll by Mabel founder Mabel Khonje said the new designs have been warmly received by people from Africa, Europe and the Middle East. \u201cI am glad that we are growing as a business. Fashion is universal and global, so designers from Malawi like me have a unique opportunity and responsibility to show that Malawian products meet global tastes and standards.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdditionally, because fashion tends to attract media attention, we have an opportunity to use our global spotlight to shine a light on the other products that Malawi produces in sectors like mining, agriculture, and energy,\u201d she articulated.<\/p>\n

She then revealed that this year has been the biggest highlight of Doll by Mabel business since she launched in 2020. \u201cThe Dubai Expo was a perfect platform for us to continue expanding the brand\u2019s reach through new partnerships and investments. I feel very grateful for the chance to showcase Malawi\u2019s depth of creativity and rich experience in design.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo have my brand selected for this opportunity is a great honor and I mean to keep these doors open for more Malawian talent in the years to come,\u201d explained Khonje who also a former Malawi beauty queen. Commenting her brand, Khonje said Doll by Mabel is a brand that says all women are free to express themselves, and Malawian women are no exception.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy country has a long history of patriarchy that has stifled the full realization of women\u2019s aspiration to be truly free to express themselves without fear or censure. As such, my brand is both a celebration and a promotion of the transformation that is happening for women in my country,\u201d she said. Khonje is a Netherlands based Malawian fashion designer who was honored with a 2020 UMP fashion icon award.<\/p>\n
