Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vice president for the Eastern Region Bright Msaka has urged party followers to be united to win the 2025 presidential election.<\/p>\n

Msaka was speaking at a rally he addressed in Balaka District Sunday. Msaka said nothing was working in the country, faulting the Tonse Alliance-led administration for failing Malawians.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fertiliser they promised to be selling at K4,495 per 50 kilogramme bag is now going at K70,000. The Tonse Alliance administration is just arresting people on political grounds. They have failed to deliver on all their campaign promises. including that pertaining to the creation of one million jobs. Who has been employed? All they know is firing people.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am particularly impressed with the turnout at this rally. People are not happy with the way the country is being run and you can see for yourself. All we need is to remain united as we forge ahead towards 2025 and rescue the people of Malawi,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

DPP Eastern Region governor Emran Ntenje said there was a need for unity in the party. He described those that have been preaching a different message from that being preached by the party as \u201cJudas Iscariots\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike Judas Iscariot, they are trying to sell the party but they will not prevail. As Judas Iscariot, they will not reap the fruits of their deplorable behavior,\u201d Ntenje said.<\/p>\n

Democratic Progressive Party national organising secretary Chimwemwe Chipungu said the party\u2019s president Peter Mutharika has not made a decision on whether to contest for the position of the country\u2019s president in 2025.<\/p>\n

The position, which was also echoed by Msaka, came at a time that some sections of the party are suggesting that Mutharika be their torchbearer in 2025.<\/p>\n

Among notable faces at the rally were former First Lady Getrude Mutharika, the party\u2019s national administrative secretary Francis Mphepo, Mutharika\u2019s running mate in the May 21 2019 presidential election Everton Chimulirenji, former Reserve Bank of Malawi governor Dalitso Kabambe and some of the party\u2019s members of Parliament.<\/p>\n
