Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Members of Bingu wa Mutharika\u2019s family are expressing delight with President Dr Lazarus Maccathy Chakwera\u2019s decision that government should take over the care of his Mpumulo wa Bata Mausoleum at Ndata Farm in Thyolo. A family representative, Arthur Masamba said the family was struggling and relying on well wishers to care for the late President\u2019s resting place.<\/p>\n

During the late President Hastings Kamuzu Banda\u2019s memorial service in Lilongwe on Saturday, President Lazarus Chakwera ordered Ministry of Culture and Tourism to discuss with Bingu\u2019s family for government to take over the care of the Mausoleum.<\/p>\n

A political commentator Humphrey Mvula called on former president Peter Mutharika and the Mutharika family to accept that the government should take over the caring of former president Bingu wa Mutharika.<\/p>\n

In an interview on Sunday, Humphrey Mvula described the gesture by President Lazarus MacCathy Chakwera as mature and reconciliatory disposition to have Bingu wa Mutharika\u2019s mausoleum cared by the government.<\/p>\n

At one point, grass and shrubs outgrew the mausoleum. Mvula said President Chakwera\u2019s gesture is unprecedented. \u201cDespite sharp differences between the Government and the DPP ( Democratic Progressive Party), the President has shown maturity and wisdom.<\/p>\n

\u201cDespite the fact that Professor Peter Mutharika has not yet accepted that President Dr Chakwera is the Head of State, President Dr Chakwera has decided to honour his predecessor,\u201d said Mvula.<\/p>\n

He said Professor Peter Mutharika and the DPP should swallow their pride and thank President Dr Chakwera for the gesture. Mvula said President Chakwera should do the same with other former heads of state and other great sons of Malawi such as Chakufwa Chihana.<\/p>\n

The government is constructing a mausoleum for the founding member of the Malawi Congress Party and one of the country\u2019s eminent freedom fighters, Orton Chirwa in Nkhata Bay.<\/p>\n

President Chakwera\u2019s gesture has received praise as Malawians took up in various social media platforms to hail the president for his decision that the government should take over the caring of the Bingu wa Mutharika mausolium. They said this was one way of uniting the country.<\/p>\n
