Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>As Malawi continues to face challenges in the heath sector due to inadequate funding, Parliamentary Committee on Heath has recommended the introduction of heath toll gate to curb the situation.<\/p>\n

Chairperson for the Committee, Mathews Ngwale said this on Thursday, May 26, 2022 during the national SRHS alliance budget briefing advocacy meeting. Ngwale said country heath support need new ideas to finance health sector and if MK1,000 per year per person will help to solve some of the problems in the heath sector.<\/p>\n

Echoing on the same, Deputy Director in the Ministry of Health ,Henry Phiri said lobbying parliament for adequate funding is not enough due to minimal funding hence the need for new ideas to help in financing the health sector.<\/p>\n

Phiri said the funding only increase in 2 to 3 years time but at slow pace with parliament intervention hence the new ideas to finance the sector. SRHS Vice Chairperson, Donald Magwagwa said Reproductive health needs more funding to control the countries population.<\/p>\n

Magwagwa said there is a need for more awareness on contraceptive measures to reach out to the teenagers across the country. He added that currently the country teenager pregnancy rate is at 29 percent.<\/p>\n

The meeting was organized by OXFAM in collaboration with SRHS Alliance with financial support from Aids and Rights Alliance in Southern Africa (ARASA).<\/p>\n
