Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Manchester Thunder has won the 2022 Vitality Netball Super League in the United Kingdom (UK) for the first time since 2019. The team played 22 games undefeated to be crowned the Champions to the delight of boss Karen Greig who lauded a near-perfect season.<\/p>\n

Joyce Mvula\u2019s side Thunder made it 22 wins on the trot with 60-53 win over Loughborough Lightning in the Grand Final to lift the trophy in a dominant performance at London\u2019s Copper Box Arena.<\/p>\n

It capped a season that will live long in the memory for Greig and her players as they neared netball perfection. \u201cI don\u2019t think you can get any closer than that. A lot of our girls will turn around and say this is the best squad we\u2019ve ever had,\u201d Greig said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe unitedness of the team has been phenomenal, the girls have got each other\u2019s backs. They get on, on and off the court, which for me is a culture thing and you see transfer from off to on: you couldn\u2019t ask for more.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thunder raced into a 20-6 lead in a first quarter marred by injury to Lightning\u2019s Ella Clark, and Greig\u2019s charges never relinquished their lead to take the title back to the north west.<\/p>\n

The head coach was full of praise for how her side dealt with the pressure of the occasion in front of a frenetic crowd. \u201cI don\u2019t think you feel the pressure because you\u2019re undefeated, you feel the pressure because you\u2019re going into a final,\u201d admitted Greig.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve treated every single game exactly the same this season, we\u2019ve wanted to win every game, we\u2019ve approached it in the same way and today was no different.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust because it was a final, we didn\u2019t do anything different. If you throw something different at the team it can throw them off.<\/p>\n

\u201cUndefeated is absolutely amazing and we\u2019re super proud of it, but to get over the line today is phenomenal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eleanor Cardwell, who was voted the league\u2019s Players\u2019 Player of the Season, finished the game with a final goal to spark jubilant scenes on the Thunder bench, and Greig believes it is just desserts for her players\u2019 hard work through out the campaign.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo see those girls plug away every single week in training, we\u2019ve thrown so much at them every week in training,\u201d said Greig.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve really embraced what we\u2019ve asked of them so I couldn\u2019t be prouder of everybody, and that\u2019s not just the players.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody that\u2019s been involved in this franchise this year has made sure that we were getting it right on and off the court.\u201d<\/p>\n

The utterly dominant performance was a fitting tribute to a side that Performance Director Tracey Neville believes to be one of the league\u2019s best of all time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is one of the best club sides I\u2019ve coached. We\u2019ve got a team full of internationals and potential internationals and they drive the standards in the group. The Roses are the best girls in England, but this team is not far off,\u201d said Neville.<\/p>\n
