Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Investigations by Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs has exposed irregular transactions at the Accountant General\u2019s Office . This follows increase in number of corruption cases in the country.<\/p>\n

In a statement which Maravi Post has in possession signed Public Relations Officer Taurai Banda the New Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) has been instrumental in assisting government with monitoring transactions, identifying irregularities, and improving efficiency in public service delivery in accordance with laws of Malawi.<\/p>\n

The statement adds that the investigation has since exposed what appears to be fraudulent activities perpetrated by personnel in the Accountant General\u2019s department for personnel again<\/p>\n

\u201cAs such, in pursuit of governments policy of ending corruption and upholding the rule of law , the ministry referred the matter to the fiscal police for the enforcement of any laws violated by suspected culprits, resulting in the arrest of at least one officer\u201d, reads the statement<\/p>\n

Banda says the ministry has commended the fiscal police for moving with speed on the matter and for assisting government in fulfilling its mandate to safeguard the hard-earned resources of Malawian tax payers and ensure that the use of such resources for any purpose other than the advancement and development of Malawi and it\u2019s people is never tolerated. Meanwhile the ministry says it looks forward to collaborate with the fiscal police as the investigations continue.<\/p>\n
