Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>The confused Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) keep on infighting within the party as on Sunday, June 26, 2022 removed Kondwani Nankhumwa as leader of opposition in Malawi Parliament.<\/p>\n

The party used Parliament Standing Orders 35 and 36 of the National Assembly to remove Nankhumwa from the position replacing him with George Chaponda. With the leadership of Peter Mutharika, DPP also re-elected Simon Vuwa Kaunda as Chief Whip with Lonnie Chijere Phiri as his Deputy.<\/p>\n

In a statement signed by the Administrative Secretary of the Party, Francis Mphepo, Victor Musowa has been elected as Leader of the Back Benchers while his Deputy is Victoria Kingstone.<\/p>\n

The DPP has announced all the positions disobeying a court order which reinstated Kondwani Nankhumwa as the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, the announcement itself has increased tempers and divisions in the Party.<\/p>\n

DPP Spokesperson in Parliament who is on Nankhumwa\u2019s side, Mark Botomani warned Mutharika and other party leaders that the decision reached at the Page House in Mangochi is against the court order of reinstating Nankhumwa as the Leader of Opposition in Parliament.<\/p>\n

Botomani has challenged the decision reached at the Page House as null and void saying Parliament has the Standing Orders for the Leader of Opposition.<\/p>\n

The Maravi Post understands that DPP Caucus at the Page House was attended by 25 MPs who were invited out of 72 as they cannot make a decision representing all. The party did not invite Nankhumwa, DPP Secretary General Grezelder Jeffrey, Jappie Mhango to meeting.<\/p>\n
