Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>The main Tonse Alliance Partner Malawi Congress Party ( MCP) has dispelled speculations that is in possession of the document showing Saulos Chilima and Lazarus Chakwera sharing term of office for the position of President as claimed by Chilima in his Friday\u2019s press statement.<\/p>\n

In a statement signed by the party\u2019s National Publicity Secretary Maurice Munthari, MCP says since the address by Chilima touched on matters on matters related to the substance and sustainability of the Tonse Alliance, the party will follow the alliance\u2019s agreed guidelines for addressing such matters.<\/p>\n

The statement reads\u201d Meanwhile, from where we stand, the Malawi Congress Party does not have, in its possession, any document that stipulates of or points to the sharing of terms between Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and Dr. Saulos Claus Chilima.<\/p>\n

\u201d In any case, as a law abiding party, we will comply with the dedicates of the supreme laws of the land which our Republican Constitution.\u201d The party further says it will accordingly engage all Tonse Alliance Partners to ensure such matters are tabled at the next meeting of the partners.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is our hope that during that meeting, a common position on the resolutions reached collectively will be communicated to the public in the interest of advancing transparency, respecting the spirit of shared responsibility in which the Tonse Alliance was formed, and upholding our promise to keep the alliance focused on serving Malawians without regard to political interests,\u201d further reads the statement.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, MCP says it reaffirms its commitment to the Alliance and the values and objectives upon which it was founded and as already stated in the public statement issued by all alliance partners on June 24, 2022.<\/p>\n
