{"id":26555,"date":"2022-07-12T21:19:30","date_gmt":"2022-07-12T21:19:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/malawi\/all-news\/macra-suspends-issuing-broadcasting-licenses-to-fm-radios"},"modified":"2022-07-12T21:37:38","modified_gmt":"2022-07-12T21:37:38","slug":"macra-suspends-issuing-broadcasting-licenses-to-fm-radios","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/malawi\/all-news\/macra-suspends-issuing-broadcasting-licenses-to-fm-radios","title":{"rendered":"MACRA suspends issuing broadcasting licenses to FM radios"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has suspended the issuing of broadcasting licences and broadcasting frequencies for FM Radios in the country.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement signed by its Director General Daudi Suleiman, MACRA says the suspension is due to the saturation of FM band which spans from 87.5 to 108MHZ with a total of 20.5 MHZ.<\/p>\n<p>The Regulatory body cites another reason for licences suspension as lack of critical resource of spectrum in the main country\u2019s cities of Blantyre, Lilongwe, Mzuzu and other districts due to congestion in FM the band.<\/p>\n<p>MACRA says it believes the suspension will enable it to work on solutions on reducing the congestion of the FM band.
