Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>President Lazarus Chakwera\u2019s Malawi Congress Party (MCP) on Sunday evening, July 3, 2022 pulled out at the eleventh hour from participating in Times TV Hot Current Program on Tonse Alliance agreement.<\/p>\n

MCP publicity Secretary Maurice Munthali sent a message of apology not to attend the program when it was to be on air without apparent reasons. But UTM publicity secretary Frank Mwenefumbo showed up to the program though very sad with MCP absence.<\/p>\n

The program aimed at giving both sides to shield more light on Tonse Alliance agreement amid political tension since Vice President Saulos Chilima break the silence on the matter.<\/p>\n

During the program, Mwenifumbo challenged president Chakwera to deny in the public if the document which has been circulating on social media is a fake one which says after five years, he is not supposed to stand again for the 2025 polls.<\/p>\n

Mwenefumbo also blasted MCP Secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka for lying to Malawians that MCP has no document which stipulates terms on presidency. UTM spokesperson dared should produce their document on the Tonse Alliance agreement if they are refuting the one Vice President Saulos Chilima revealed.<\/p>\n

UTM \u2018s Mwenefumbo says his party is ready to initiate the constitutional amendment of section 91(2) to remove the immunity of the President for him or to face prosecution and stand trial while in office.<\/p>\n

He has also appealed the civil society to join the calls to amend the law to allow the occupant to be arrested while in office as one of curbing corruption in the country.<\/p>\n

He has further indicated that since the promise is in the manifesto, President Chakwera will be the first one to support it as he did with Martha Chizuma when she was rejected by Parliament.<\/p>\n

Mwenefumbo also chided Mkaka for misleading Malawians on the alliance document that he must be bold enough as a Minister to tell Malawians the truth always.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy the way Chakwera saw the potential in UTM and SKC hence he wanted us to partner with him. MCP has suffered trust issues for many years and it had to take UTM brass to convince people from north to vote for Chakwera,\u201d said Tumpale.<\/p>\n

Mwenifumbo therefore says the notion that UTM is small party is a misplaced one because according the constitution of Malawi, President is voted by Malawians direct from polls and not through parliamentary setup. Reverend Chakwera is yet to respond on Chilima\u2019s disclosure of Tonse agreement as political tension between the parties rages on.<\/p>\n
