Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Death has been announced of retired Justice Elton Singini SC. According to the Communications from his family, Singini died at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe on Tuesday July 6, 2022.<\/p>\n

Until his death, late Singini, SC was the chairperson of the Governing Council of the University of Lilongwe. He attended primary school at Khondowe in northern Malawi.<\/p>\n

Singini was selected to attend Dedza Secondary School in central Malawi. In October, 1970, late Singini enrolled to study law at the Institute of Public Administration at Mpemba in Blantyre.<\/p>\n

The Institute later became part of the University of Malawi, Chancellor College. He graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree on July 26, 1975 and reported for duty at the Ministry of Justice on July 28, 1975 where he started out as a State Advocate.<\/p>\n

Justice Singini rose through the ranks in the public sector. He became Chief Legislative Draftsman in July, 1984 and eventually became the Solicitor General and Secretary for Justice in 1993.<\/p>\n

He was appointed a Justice of the High Court on August 25, 1995 and took oath of office on December 9, 1995. He became the first Law Commissioner of the Law Commission in Malawi, through an appointment by the State President on January18, 1996.<\/p>\n

He served in this capacity until June, 2006. Justice Singini also served as Vice President of ALRAESA and President of the Commonwealth Association of Law Reform Agencies. Details of his funeral will be announced later.<\/p>\n
