Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>The Lilongwe Magistrate Court through its Chief Resident Magistrate Madalitso Chimwaza has given the state 14 days to submit the amended charge sheet that will allow the accused persons to take a fresh plea in the US$108 Million case involving former Finance Minister Joseph Mwanamvekha and Former Reserve Bank Malawi (RBM) Governor Dalitso Kabambe.<\/p>\n

The two are accused of doctoring financial figures that were submitted to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank while they were in office.<\/p>\n

The move was allegedly made to IMF to believe that government was meeting conditions connected to the $108 Million Extended Credit Facility (ECF). IMF eventually, cancelled the ECF to prejudice the rights of Malawi Government.<\/p>\n

In her ruling, Magistrate Chimwaza directed that the charge sheet should contain particulars like the month in which the alleged offence took place unlike just saying in the year 2019.<\/p>\n

Mwanamvekha once served as Malawi Savings Bank Chief Executive Officer. He left the role in 2009 and later became Secretary to Treasury in the Bingu wa Mutharika administration between 2010 and 2012.<\/p>\n

In 2015 when the bank was being sold, he was Minister of Trade in the Peter Mutharika administration. Mwananveka and Kabambe were also arrested on December 8, 2021 on the similar cases.<\/p>\n
