Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>The High Court Lilongwe registry on Wednesday morning, July 20, 2022 issued an injunction suspending the demonstrations that were supposed to take place today starting this morning until an inter-parte hearing is heard.<\/p>\n

The protesters under the banner Human Rights Ambassadors are against what they call \u201cselective justice in the judiciary\u201d. The injunction has been obtained by lawyer Gift Nankhuni on behalf of a John Kwenda and others. The court says disobeying the order would constitute contempt of court with probable results of fines or imprisonment.<\/p>\n

The claimants are demanding a list of names of those to be liable if protests ended in damage to property, assurance that the protests would be peaceful, an audio or written communication calling for peaceful protests and retraction of an audio by one Ben Longwe in which he is allegedly calling for violence and commission of offence. But protestors have already started gathering in the streets of Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
