Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Acton Against Impunity (AAI), a grouping of concerned citizens involved in organizing demonstrations that failed to take place Thursday last week, says will reveal abductors of human rights activist Sylvester Namiwa if the police are delaying to take any action on the abductors.<\/p>\n

Members of the grouping spoke during a press conference, which they held on Monday in Lilongwe. Namiwa, a member of AAI and Executive Director of Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI), was abducted Wednesday last week by unknown thugs ahead of Thursday\u2019s failed demonstrations.<\/p>\n

Reading out a statement during the press conference, which Namiwa himself attended, an AAI member, Wells Khama, said they know the abductors of Namiwa and that they have provided enough evidence to the police to act.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are expecting nothing than quick action by the police on this matter. If, for reasons known to themselves, are unnecessarily delaying, we will be forced to reveal the abductors. Otherwise, we believe they are a professional police and that we can bank on them,\u201d said Khama.<\/p>\n

According to AAI, Namiwa, after a press conference at Crown Hotel, was stalked by thugs travelling in a car without a number plate. At Area 3 roundabout, the thugs had Namiwa taken out of his car and then assorted him heavily.<\/p>\n

They allegedly drove him around while still assorting him and later dumped him in Nathenje on Thursday. Namiwa showed the journalists the wounds he allegedly sustained during the abduction.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is unacceptable in a new democratic Malawi. This impunity will not stop us from speaking on behalf of the people of Malawi who are suffering under this regime,\u201d added Khama.<\/p>\n

Taking his turn, Namiwa reiterated Khama\u2019s sentiments, adding that he is not afraid with what happened to him. He vowed to continue fighting for the voiceless.<\/p>\n
