Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Businessperson Zameer Karim alongside a Malawi Police Officer, Senior Superintendent Grant Kachingwe have pleaded not guilty to all six counts levelled against them bordering on theft, conspiracy to use public office for one\u2019s advantage, money laundering and forgery in relation to a MK2.7 billion food ration deal involving Karim\u2019s company \u2013 Pioneer Investments.<\/p>\n

The two are in court following a report by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB),that the two are suspected to have committed the offence between 2014 and 2019.<\/p>\n

According to court records, the Malawi Police Service entered into a contract with Karim\u2019s Pioneer Investments to supply 500,000 food ration packs at about MK2.1 billion<\/p>\n

ACB is parading witnesses and currently former Police Inspector General Lexten Kachama is rendering his testimony before High Court Judge Annabel Mtalimanja.<\/p>\n

In 2017, CDH Investment Bank sued the AG\u2019s office and the Malawi Government was ordered to pay about MK2.3 billion which included a loan Karim obtained from the bank, interest and some collection fees. The government, which had already paid Karim his money, then sued him through the AG for making Capital Hill pay twice in the matter.<\/p>\n

Judge Mtalimanja has since directed that Commissioner of Police Innocent Bottoman who is now deceased and was one of the accused persons in the matter should not be directly linked to the current trial.<\/p>\n
