Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Public and private universities have joined forces in contributing towards success of the Malawi 2063, the country\u2019s long-term development blueprint, through research and training.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Wednesday after a day-long engagement of for members of the academia in Zomba, University of Malawi (Unima) Vice Chancellor Samson Sajidu said the meeting drew a roadmap on the academia\u2019s contribution towards national development.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are going to embed some of the aspects in the Malawi 2063 in our curriculum as universities. Universities have also stressed how we should treat all the seven enablers of the Malawi 2063 as interconnected,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Sajidu added that the universities\u2019 are expected to set a tone for standards at all levels of development endeavors. National Planning Commission (NPC) Research Manager Andrew Jamali said the commission drafted a national research agenda to help uncover technologies the country needs, among other things.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Chief Technology Transfer Officer for National Commission for Science and Technology Isaac Chingota lamented slow growth of various sectors of the economy due to lack of home grown solution.<\/p>\n

Unicef financed the meeting which attracted participants from eight universities including Unima, Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences, Kamuzu University of Healthcare Sciences (KUHeS), Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Malawi University of Science and Technology, University of Livingstonia, Catholic University and Mzuzu University.<\/p>\n

In line with Malawi 2063 aspirations, to transform the country into an inclusively wealth and self-reliant nation through industrialisation that would make Malawi a middle income country by the year. 2063.<\/p>\n
