Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Malawi National Netball team, the Queens, yesterday comfortably defeated Trinidad and Tabogo 70-30 at the ongoing 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth games to revive their top 6 finish.<\/p>\n

Coach Peace Kalua Chawinga started Mwai Kumwenda as goal shooter, Sindi Simtowe as goal attacker,in wing attack she deployed Bridget Kumwenda, while Thandie Galeta replaced injured Takondwa Lwazi as center,Martha Dambo played in wing defence with Carlo Mtukule and Towera Vinkhumbo deployed as goal defender and goalkeeper respectively.<\/p>\n

Queens led 17-8 in the first quarter and at halftime they comfortably led 39-15.Chawinga made another change as the game progressed to seal their win,she introduced shooter Joyce Mvula, former Manchester Thunder star.<\/p>\n

Mwai Kumwenda scored 39 goals while Joyce Mvula scored 31. However the team has no time to sip and to bite flavoured UK made sausages as they date Uganda in a do or die battle today.<\/p>\n

Malawi Queens have to defeat Uganda if their dreams of finishing within top 6 at the competition are to be achieved. Uganda has of recent past gave problems to our beloved Queens including dislodging them on position six (6) in the world.<\/p>\n

Coach Chawinga described the win as a Morale booster to her squad ahead of crucial encounter against Uganda. \u201cWe made some changes so that we rest other players for the big game against Uganda,but these girls have played well today.We will wind up pool B matches against Uganda which I anticipate to be more physical and tough\u201d, Chawinga said.<\/p>\n

Peace is however optimistic and upbeat of beating Uganda today and hoping to finish on position 5 or 6. Samuel Kanyenda, Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) Technical Director, has warned the players to avoid playing under pressure as it will result wrong passes, unforced errors. He has also appealed to the team to be composed enough and the goalkeeper to tightly mark the opponents.<\/p>\n
