Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Regional Football governing bodies (CRFA,NRFA,SRFA) have pleaded with Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to consider increasing districts FAM leagues packages.<\/p>\n

The bodies made the plea at Mitundu Primary School on Friday, August 26, 2022 when Football Association of Malawi (FAM) was launching the MK60 million districts leagues.<\/p>\n

Currently, the country\u2019s 29 districts receive MK2 million for the league which the regions said it\u2019s too minimal as things have gone up hence a need to increase the package.<\/p>\n

Lameck Zetu Khonje, Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) chairman, speaking on behalf of the three regions said they are happy for the initiative which has been lacking in the development of the sport in the country for many years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very happy that the leagues are happening in rural areas which is very important for the development of the sport. However the package is minimal to enable the districts committees to cater for everything to run the leagues smoothly hence the appeal to FAM to consider increasing it so that grassroots football is taken to another level\u201d,<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have very huge talents in the villages but need more resources to be nurtured\u201d,Khonje said. FAM President Walter Nyamilandu Manda who graced the occasion acknowledged the MK60 million package need to be revised.<\/p>\n

Nyamilandu was quick to arguing that the association needs to attract sponsors or partners if the districts are to receive huge sum of money. \u201cMalawi is wide hence as Association despite committing ourselves to developing the sport. We need also to have Sponsors as we can not manage on our own.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to produce another Gabadihno Mhango, Joseph Kamwendo from these leagues. To produce good players we arrange trainings for coaches, referees and purchasing of equipment which is a great tool in the sport,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Nyamilandu adds, \u201cWe want to reach everywhere in the country even in the hard to reach areas so that we bring out hidden talents which Super League teams are failing to discover\u201d. This is the second edition of the FAM districts leagues, as FAM established the initiative in 2021.<\/p>\n
