Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the South, Kondwani Nankhumwa and three others, have instructed their lawyers to withdraw the notice of assessment demanding costs of over MK87 million from the party.<\/p>\n

In the Notice to their lawyers, Messrs Cassius Chidothe of Chidothe and Co, Gilbert Khonyongwa of Khonyongwa and Associates and Michael Goba Chipeta of Gobs and Rechtswissenschaft signed by Yusuf Witness Nthenda, the four have considered to withdraw the Notice of Assessment basing on the fact that they are senior members of the party.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish to instruct you to withdraw the Notice of Assessment considering the fact that we are also senior members of the party,\u2019\u2019 reads part of the letter.<\/p>\n

In May, 2022 the High Court in Lilongwe ruled in favour of Nankhumwa, Grezelder Jefferey (Secretary General), Jappie Mhango and Yusuf Nthenda in a case against the DPP for expelling them from the party on claims of insubordination against its leader Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.<\/p>\n

The three were reportedly to have thrown their weight behind Nankhumwa as Leader of Opposition in Parliament contrary to the wishes of Professor Mutharika and others who gave him advises to settle for Dr. George Chaponda.<\/p>\n

Ever since the four were expelled from the party there have been court injunctions against the other making the party to be divided into two camps, one supporting Nankhumwa and the other for Professor Mutharika in no camp wants to give chance to others.<\/p>\n

The development forced the two camps to address separate meetings at one venue in Lilongwe\u2019s Mgona Township. The rally proved that the DPP has a strong majority following and was ready to bounce back into government in 2025 if the two camps unites.<\/p>\n

The Nankhumwa camp held another rally at Nyambadwe in Blantyre where a repeat of the same as the Mgona rally in Lilongwe was witnessed that DPP is one family besides falling into two camps, hundreds upon hundreds of people patronized Nankhumwa\u2019s rally.<\/p>\n

Following victory in the case against their expulsion from the DPP, Nankhumwa and three others, demanded from the DPP over MK87 million as costs ordered by the court and a day was set 1st September, 2022 to assess the cost.<\/p>\n
