{"id":33520,"date":"2022-10-26T21:37:52","date_gmt":"2022-10-26T21:37:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/malawi\/all-news\/chakwera-smiles-at-world-banks-mk350bn-mcc-second-compact"},"modified":"2022-10-26T22:15:44","modified_gmt":"2022-10-26T22:15:44","slug":"chakwera-smiles-at-world-banks-mk350bn-mcc-second-compact","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/malawi\/all-news\/chakwera-smiles-at-world-banks-mk350bn-mcc-second-compact","title":{"rendered":"Chakwera smiles at World Bank\u2019s  MK350bn MCC second compact"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>The World Bank has approved US$350 million (MK350 billion) Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) second compact to Malawi for various development projects.<\/p>\n<p>Signing the compact on Wednesday September 28,2022 in Washington DC, President Lazarus Chakwera said through the amount, Malawi Transport and Land Compact will be implemented to reduce transport costs and strengthen land administration in the country.<\/p>\n<p>He said among the expected outcomes with the amount is the construction of the 300-kilometre network of four corridor roads across the country to facilitate greater flow of agricultural products from farms to urban markets.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the state agencies with the mandate to supervise road infrastructure will also receive technical assistance to improve usability of the infrastructure through timely maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecondly, the compact will build Malawi\u2019s capacity in land management reforms to maximise land revenue both for rural farmers and the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am delighted that the compact will create a range of economic opportunities for our people,\u201dsaid Chakwera.<\/p>\n<p>Roads that will be constructed under the MCC compact include the road Chikwawa in Rumphi to Euthini in Mzimba \u2013 67kms, from Mkanda in Mchinji to Mwase\/Linga in Kasungu \u2013 88kms, from Chileka in Lilongwe to Chigwirizano in Lilongwe \u2013 53kms, and from Chamtulo in Mangochi (off Golomoti to Monkey Bay road) to Mkutumula near Balaka Market in Ntcheu \u2013 79kms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/malawi\">Malawi<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Malawi.
