Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Malawi National Beach Soccer team has a chance to finish on position five at the ongoing Beach Soccer Afcon when they face Uganda at Vilankulo de Arena in Mozambique this afternoon.<\/p>\n

This is a battle whose winner will be ranked fifth in Africa whereas the loser will take up sixth spot. Both Malawi and Uganda failed to progress to the semifinals having finished third in their respective groups.<\/p>\n

Malawi will be hoping to get their first win of the competition against Uganda having lost 4-2 to Mozambique in the opening match before 7-3 humiliating defeat at the hands of Morocco.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Uganda were beaten 10-1 by defending champions Senegal in their first match but recovered and managed to beat Madagascar 6-3 before losing 6-2 to Egypt.<\/p>\n

This is the first meeting between the two sides at the continental showpiece finals. However, they met three times at the Copa Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.<\/p>\n

Malawi beat Uganda 7-4 during the 2017 Copa Dar es Salaam but lost the last two games 12-9 in 2018 and 6-5 in 2019. After Tuesday\u2019s training session here in Vilankulo, Malawi Coach Willy Kumilambe believes his troops will finish the tournament on a high.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is our first appearance at the international stage but I am impressed with the performance of the team. The match against Uganda will be tough but we are ready for them,\u201d Kumilambe said.<\/p>\n

In this afternoon\u2019s match, Kumilambe will likely give all the players a chance to play. Two goalkeepers Justine Bonongwe and Eddie Jamu have impressed during the tournament alongside captain Sandram Saddie, who has scored three goals.<\/p>\n

Saddie said the players were determined to beat Uganda. \u201cWe are not scared of Uganda. We have watched them so we are ready for them,\u201d Saddie said. Later in the afternoon, Senegal will meet Mozambique in the semifinals whereas Morocco and Egypt will also be in action in another semifinal. The winners will meet in the final on Friday. The finalists will qualify for the 2023 Beach Soccer World Cup.<\/p>\n
