Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>There was double joy for Blue Eagles players and officials at Nankhaka in Lilongwe on Wednesday when Malawi Police Service Inspector General (IG) Merlyne Yolamu assured them on prospects of participating in next year\u2019s Caf Confederation Cup.<\/p>\n

Yolamu gave the assurance after being fired up with Eagles\u2019 5-0 thrashing of relegated TN Stars. The country\u2019s top cop watched the match, which saw Eagles condemning the Kasungu-based Stars to a miserable outing from the TNM Super League with a second-from-bottom finish.<\/p>\n

So excited was Yolamu with Eagles\u2019 performance that she showered the players and technical panel with a K500,000 gift. That was not all. She told the players and officials that mobilisation of resources for their participation in the Confederation Cup was underway.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are motivated to put more resources into the team after the good performance this season. We already discussed the issue about the Confederations Cup and we are mobilising resources to ensure that you participate in the competition,\u201d Yolamu said.<\/p>\n

Besides the second place finish in the Super League, the Area 30 side is one leg into the semi-finals of the 2022 Airtel Top 8 Cup after beating Dedza Dynamos Salima Sugar 3-0 last week.<\/p>\n

Eagles\u2019 second-place finish in the elite league means they can only participate in the Confederations Cup, with champions Nyasa Big Bullets qualifying for the Champions League.<\/p>\n

Malawi only has one slot each in each of the two continental club competitions. Eagles Chairperson Alexander Ngwala described Yolamu\u2019s gesture as a motivation to the players.<\/p>\n

\u2019\u2019The IG has given us hope that the team will play in the Confederation Cup. This shows that management is willing to support the team. We are really motivated,\u2019\u2019 Ngwala said.<\/p>\n

Eagles\u2019 last piece of silverware was the defunct Fisd Challenge Cup which they lifted in 2019 after beating Kamuzu Barracks 4-2 on post-match penalties. Eagles Captain Schumacher Kuwali hailed Yolamu for her support.<\/p>\n

\u2019\u2019It is a dream of every player to play in Caf competitions. This is good news to us as players. Participating in the Confederation Cup will also help us with the exposure that we need to excel in our careers,\u2019\u2019 Kuwali said.<\/p>\n
