Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>President Lazarus Chakwera has bemoaned lack of order and ethics in different government institutions, describing the situation as a hindrance towards progress of various projects government is championing. Chakwera was speaking at this year\u2019s Gonapamuhanya Cultural Festival at Bolero in Rumphi District yesterday.<\/p>\n

The President said despite that he appoints heads of those government structures, they often act as if their position is a license for them to behave as if they are autonomous and have no need to collaborate with other institutions.<\/p>\n

He said even if an institution is independent, that does not provide an opportunity for someone to establish their own little empires that undermine the work of other institutions or undermines the authority of the Head of Government.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut nowadays, in every sector, you find so many Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of the Government behaving like they are not all part of the same Government, or even behaving like the Government they are a part of is not headed by the President.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou find so many behaving like the MDA they lead or belong to is the only one that matters or the only one there is, and that no one outside that MDA can hold them accountable for anything. This is wrong,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On the commemorations, Chakwera said the cultural festivals are key in raise awareness on beliefs that put Malawi\u2019s girls and women in various problems. His sentiments come at a time the country is commemorating 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.<\/p>\n

Minister of Local Government, Blessings Chinsinga, said culture is important if any country is to develop. In Malawi, he said, culture can contribute towards the realisation of the Malawi 2063.<\/p>\n

Chinsinga said introduction of policies and frameworks such as the Cultural Policy cements what he described as sense of national pride. \u201cSecondly, the creation of cultural calendar events and Unity and Dialogue Charter highlights the commitment of the government in promoting culture,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Host, Themba la Mathemba Chikulamayembe the 13th asked his subjects to take care of biodiversity and wildlife species in forests such as Vwaza and Nyika. The Tumbuka chief then hailed the government for restarting the construction of the Rumphi-Chitipa Road.<\/p>\n

He then asked President Chakwera, through the Ministry of Local Government, to consider elevating some of the chiefs who have stayed long on the same post. The event was commemorated under the theme \u2018Developing education, good cultural practices, togetherness peace and ending corruption and bribery.\u2019<\/p>\n
