Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>The European Union\u2019s Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen is in Malawi from October 27, 2022. According to a statement from European Union in Malawi, the commissioner will meet President Lazarus Chakwera to re-affirm the strong ties and ever-closer partnership between the EU and Malawi, particularly in the areas of green and resilient economic transformation, democratic and economic governance and human development and social inclusion.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is for me a tremendous pleasure to welcome our Commissioner for International Partnerships who is at the helm of much of the work we do as EU in Malawi.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs our programs are implemented in close coordination with the Government of Malawi, this visit constitutes an excellent opportunity to engage with partners and reaffirm our shared objectives,\u201d reads the statement in part. It further says that the commissioner will also meet women leaders to reflect on girls\u2019 and women social and economic empowerment.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe will also meet youth representatives to discuss the EU Youth Action Plan (YAP). In addition, she will visit a School Meals Project and a Farmer Field School in Kasungu, which are activities of the sustainable agriculture and nutrition programmes, Kulima and Afikepo, which the EU supports.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring her visit, Commissioner Urpilainen will sign six Financing Agreements with the Government of Malawi covering new programmes supporting the energy sector, green growth initiatives, democratic governance and access to justice, as well as food production and resilience of food systems,\u201d concludes the statement.<\/p>\n

Among other important things, the European Union in Malawi strongly supports the country\u2019s efforts towards a sustainable and inclusive economic transformation that is green and resilient to shocks.<\/p>\n
