Africa-Press – Malawi. <\/strong><\/span>Authorities at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe have lamented underfunding saying the situation is stifling service delivery at the facility.<\/p>\n

The was made during a high-level engagement on Wednesday, October 26,2022 where stakeholders were reviewing how to improve on financial health facilities.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, the hospital\u2019s director Jonathan Ngoma,said for instance, despite the fact that the facility needs at least MK250 Million per year, it has been funded with MK52 Million this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are failing to fully operate other important things here at KCH due to insufficient funds. The funds that are given to us for our operations are not enough for such,\u201d said Ngoma.<\/p>\n

He since then backed calls for the need for people to now start paying for services in public hospitals as proposed by a special law commission on the review of Malawi\u2019s health act so as to help easing such challenges.<\/p>\n

Kamuzu Central Hospital, is the leading public health service referral and tertiary care facility for the central region with 43 % of the Malawian population.<\/p>\n

Its services represent more than 300 000 contacts with patients annually, of which 45 000 are dealt with on as in-patient basis. KCH also performs a major function in the in-service training of medical and nursing professionals.<\/p>\n

The hospital is also responsible for district supportive supervisions to impact knowledge that improves service delivery. The hospital also boasts significant collaborations with academic and medical research stakeholders, nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n
